Hutton Vale Farm
A VISIT TO Hutton Vale is not just a trip back in time to the very origins of South Australia, it’s also a vision of the future of the Barossa Valley. Part of the original
holdings of George Fife Angas, who helped sponsor the original Silesian settlement of the Barossa in 1839, the 800 hectares that is now farmed by John and Jan Angas has been in the Angas family since 1843. “John and I are the custodians of this land, which has been in his family since settlement,” Jan says. “The Barossa was built on mixed farms and we’re still very much a reflection of that today. It was very much part of the Silesian culture to be self-sufficient. They had their cow, a pig, a smokehouse and wood oven.
